I’m Gonna Remember You
This piece is a personal reflection on girlhood and growing up. I wanted to capture the joy of being a young girl with big dreams and nothing holding her down. As a kid, you are blind to the world’s expectations and have no worries. This piece was my way of looking back at my girlhood. It was my way to express my longing to feel that girlish joy and excitement while also letting go of childhood to move on to the adventures of adulthood.
The title “I’m Gonna Remember You” is a quote from one of the kids featured in this piece. One time when I had just comforted her, she paused, looked at me, and then said those exact words. Hearing those words from a 4-year-old stunned me to silence. It meant that I had made an impression on her, but I also felt like she had made an impression on me. This bond and those words stuck with me, and it felt like a fitting title for a nostalgic look back on the ideals of girlhood.
